Amorim, thus, might end up becoming the face of United’s worst finish in Premier League history even if he wasn’t in charge for the entire duration, with the United management having given Ten Hag three months to fix the sinking ship before finally releasing him on 28 October .
The 40-year-old former Portugal midfielder though, can claim credit to steering United into the Europa League final, where they face fellow Premier League strugglers Tottenham Hotspur at Bilbao’s San Mamés Stadium following victories over Lyon and Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

Will United sack Amorim if they fail to win their first European title in eight years? According to Daily Mirror, the 13-time Premier League champions are likely to persist with Amorim the way they did with Ten Hag last season.
The Amorim era has already witnessed academy product Marcus Rashford leave the club for the first time in his career and join Aston Villa on a loan deal , possibly leaving the club for good at the end of the season. And the club management might just be eager to see how Amorim rebuilds the squad during the summer transfer window and the direction he steers the team towards in the next season.
Helping United beat Spurs and win the Europa League on Wednesday might just make Amorim’s job at Old Trafford a lot more secure.
