The Saudi Pro League is making waves with a monumental €300 million transfer package aimed at luring Vinicius Junior away from Real Madrid this summer. The reported sum would shatter all records in football history, surpassing the previous best of €222 million transfer that saw Neymar Junior move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
It’s not clear which club would have Vinicius if the deal goes through but Al-Hilal is favourite to land the footballer, as per the reports.
While the Saudi bid represents a staggering sum of money, the likelihood of such a transfer going through is highly questionable for several reasons, primarily Real Madrid’s unwavering stance, Vinicius’ personal goals, and the unique nature of the deal being proposed.
Real Madrid’s strong stance
At the heart of the issue is Real Madrid’s firm position regarding Vinicius Junior. According to a Diario AS report, the club is resolute in its unwillingness to entertain any offers below the player’s €1 billion release clause. Despite the financial temptations from Saudi Arabia, Los Blancos have made it clear that they have no intention of parting ways with their star player unless Vinicius himself pushes for a move.
In fact, Real Madrid’s strategy is to lock down Vinicius with an improved contract. His current deal runs until 2027, and the club is looking to discuss a contract extension and salary increase as early as the end of this season. Vinicius, who was recently awarded The Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2024, is undoubtedly one of the most prized assets in world football. Selling him would not only create a massive hole in Madrid’s attack but would also weaken their global brand.
Vinicius’ peak at Real Madrid
Vinicius Junior is currently at the peak of his career, having firmly established himself as one of the best forwards. Moving to the Saudi Pro League, no matter how lucrative the offer, would mean stepping away from the competitive elite of European football, a move that many players in their prime are reluctant to make.
From a footballing perspective, Vinicius is likely more focused on continuing to compete for major trophies with Real Madrid rather than taking the path that would see him leave one of the most prestigious clubs for a less competitive league despite the financial rewards being undeniably huge.
