Despite not being in the top tier of English football, Swansea City are causing major ripples in the football world. Having been relegated from the Premier League following the 2018 season, the Welsh club is contemplating ideas to resurrect its lost glory. In this pursuit, they’ve offered ownership stakes to notable figures from different fields. Real Madrid legend Luka Modric has acquired a stake in the 113-year-old club. Similarly, globally recognised rapper Snoop Dogg has become a co-owner and investor.

Upon announcing the development, the 53-year-old US rapper shared that the club carries the attributes of “An underdog that bites back, just like me”.

“My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City,” the music icon said in the announcement. “The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. I’m proud to be part of Swansea City. I am going to do all I can to help the club,” Dogg told the club’s website.

Based in Swansea, Wales, the club was founded in 1912. After a continued struggle, it got promoted to the Premier League in 2011 and won the League Cup in 2013. However, the pride of playing in the Premier League was short-lived as the club got relegated to the second division English Championships after the 2018 season. The club underwent a takeover led by American businessmen Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen last November. Following that, they replaced manager Luke Williams with Alan Sheehan as team manager. The team finished 14th in the Championship standings last year, then 11th in the following year. With Modric becoming an investor, Snoop Dogg is now the second high-profile name to invest in the club.
