Marcus Rashford is reportedly already planning his Aston Villa exit after joining the club on loan only in the January transfer window. Rashford joined Villa after being surplus to requirement at Manchester United.
While English Premier League club Aston Villa have the option to sign the England striker Rashford on a £40million permanent deal in the summer, the 27-year-old is still hoping to seal a move to Barcelona.
Rashford was heavily linked with Barcelona in the January transfer window after falling out with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim but the move never materialized. He was also linked with AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund but eventually joined Villa on 3 February .
The move to Villa was made possible by the club’s willingness to pay the majority of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week salary.
“I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen,” Rashford had said after joining Villa. “I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision – I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the managers’ ambitions. I just want to play football and am excited to get started.”
Rashford wants Barcelona move next summer
Rashford is now hoping that a good performance at Villa will earn him a transfer to Barcelona, according to a report in The Sun, despite sporting director Deco stating that the striker is not a priority.
“It’s true, we were talking about Marcus Rashford and it was a possible signing… but he couldn’t come,” Deco said. “We weren’t desperately looking for a signing. He was not a priority.”
There have been reports that Rashford is even willing to take a pay cut to join Barcelona and that the La Liga club coach Hansi Flick is desperately looking forward to signing a striker and easing the workload on Robert Lewandowski.
Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta are other strikers who are on Barcelona’s shortlist.
