Manchester United conceded their 82nd goal of the season as Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard crept in ahead of Casemiro at the near post and deflected the ball into Andre Onana’s goal in the English Premier League fixture at Old Trafford.

By full time, with no change in scoreline, Manchester United suffered their second home defeat to Arsenal in 17 league games.

Defeat for United was latest for under-pressure Erik ten Hag, whose team lost their 14th league game of the season and have just one win in last eight.

With two games remaining in the league, United are eighth in the points table and in danger of missing out on European football next season. Once a storied club in English football, Manchester United have never finished lower than seventh in the Premier League era.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United’s co-owner was at Old Trafford, witnessing yet another damaging defeat. He got a display of issues plaguing the Red Devils off the field as well.

As heavy rain fell towards the end of the fixture, water came down from the corner of the roof between the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and East Stand on to the seats below.

Videos on social media also showed water flowing down the steps of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand, flooding a portion of the pitch.

Ratcliffe, who attended the game alongside Lord Sebastian Coe, former British athlete and now World Athletics chief, and Greater Manchester mayor, has expressed his “preference” to build a new stadium for the club.

The INEOS billionaire opted against making the trip to Wembley in London where Manchester United women took on Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s FA Cup final. If he had, Ratcliffe would have witnessed the women clinch their first major trophy after a 4-0 win.

Ella Toone’s long-range strike in first-half stoppage time set up victory for Marc Skinner’s team. United cruised to victory after the break through a brace from Lucia Garcia and another from Rachel Williams.

The title success marked a turnaround from disappointment 12 months ago when Manchester United lost to Chelsea in last year’s final.

It is the first time since Birmingham’s victory in 2012 that the Women’s FA Cup hasn’t been won by one of Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester City.
