Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has asked the club to bring in more new players before the summer transfer window closes, claims a report. The Portuguese star has reportedly told the management that the team needs “more quality” after finishing 15th last season, which is their worst-ever finish in the Premier League.
United also missed out on Champions League football after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. Now, the club is hoping for a fresh start under manager Ruben Amorim , who failed to make a turnaround last season after joining mid-season.
So far, United have signed Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon to strengthen the squad. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has gone to Barcelona on loan, and Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof have been released. But more changes are expected during the summer transfer window.
One of United’s biggest targets now is RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who scored 21 goals in 45 matches last season. According to a report by Sky Sports, United have received a major boost in their pursuit of the 21-year-old. Leipzig striker Lois Openda, who had been linked with a move to Sunderland, is now expected to stay, making it more likely that Leipzig will allow Sesko to leave.
Bruno Fernandes wants quality players
Speaking about the team’s progress after United’s 2-2 pre-season draw with Everton, Bruno Fernandes said, “It’s improving, but it’s not where we want it to be. It’s a game of football, there’s always passion there. Whatever happens, happens. There was nothing spicy there, it’s normal, it is part of the game. It’s been positive [the US tour] and it’s good to create a bond with the players.”
“We looked a bit lazy today and we need to change that. We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a bit more and to have more to do to get into the starting line-up. I think that’s what the club and the manager are trying to do and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that,” he added.
Manchester United will kick off their new Premier League campaign with a clash against rival Arsenal on August 17.
