Desperate to reclaim the lost Premier League glory, Manchester United upped the ante in the ongoing summer transfer window and spent lavishly to secure their identified targets. Having splashed over £200 million, INEOS has signed four players- Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Diego Leon- till now, and as the deadline day (September 1) of the transfer window is nearing, there are assertions that United can make another big-money signing.

While multiple reports highlighted that United are seeking Carlos Baleba from Brighton, the astronomical sum demanded by the club has seemingly tamed the interest of the Red Devils for the player. Although there is still time left to reach an agreement for the player, with the season already underway, it seems unlikely.

Man United have eyes on Palace midfielder Adam Wharton

Nonetheless, Ruben Amorim and co. are still exploring the market and according to a report by TBR Football, they have established interest in Crystal Palace’s holding midfielder, Adam Wharton.

The report further states that United sent scouts to Stamford Bridge over the weekend to keenly observe the play of Wharton during the club’s season opener against Chelsea.

If it is indeed the case, then considering the fact that Crystal Palace were able to extract a point by holding the Blues to a 0-0 draw and Wharton had a role to play in it, the United scouts might likely be impressed.

Wharton won four duels and got dispossessed only once during the game.

Adam Wharton has been linked with Manchester United for a considerable time now, but Crystal Palace are unlikely to let him go without demanding a substantial fee. Earlier this summer, the Daily Mail reported that Palace would not consider selling the 21-year-old for less than £60 million.

Thus, only time will tell whether Manchester United will engage in serious talks to secure a deal for Wharton.

United, who finished 15th last season in the EPL, did not have an ideal start to the 2025/26 season. The team lost to arch-rivals Arsenal 0-1 in its opening game of the season. However, many experts and fans were fascinated by the way they played the match and are optimistic about the future results. Man United will next take on Fulham in the league on Sunday, August 24.
