Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is walking on thin ice as pressure keeps piling on after a poor start to the 2025-26 Premier League season. United have picked up only four points from their first four matches and are sitting in 14th place on the table.

Amorim, who took charge last season, has won only eight of his 31 league matches so far. He was brought in as Man United’s manager to change the fortunes of the club, but the 40-year-old has failed to turn things around at Old Trafford and is now facing the risk of being sacked.

According to reports, some senior players in the team are also losing faith in Amorim. The United board, however, continues to claim they are backing him. Meanwhile, a report in The Mirror has emerged suggesting that Amorim’s future will be reviewed after the next three games.

United are scheduled to face Chelsea at Old Trafford this weekend, followed by an away trip to Brentford and then a home game against Sunderland before the international break. A decision on Amorim’s future will likely be made after these games. Last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City has only added to the pressure.

The first game after the break is against their rivals Liverpool at Anfield. If results don’t improve before then, the United board may be forced to think about changing managers. It’s worth noting that former manager Erik ten Hag was also publicly backed before being sacked last season.

Amorim’s replacements named

As per the report, several names are already being linked to the top job at United. Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, England head coach Gareth Southgate, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, and USA manager Mauricio Pochettino are all in the mix. If Amorim is dismissed, these names are being considered as potential replacements.

Meanwhile, another report has claimed that Amorim’s future as United head coach is not under threat. According to GiveMeSport, the club is not preparing for any change at the moment and are looking to back Amorim for the long run. The report further pointed out that the potential replacements named in The Mirror are bookmakers’ favourites and not suggestions from their sources inside the club.
