The fans, who spent up to $350 (£260, Rs 30,000 approximately) to buy tickets to the Manchester United match, were livid after the English team lost to ASEAN All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Manchester United are finding it tough to find a win, even on a promotional tour, as they went down to ASEAN All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Wednesday. The team was jeered off the pitch after a spiritless performance on the back of a disastrous Premier League campaign, where they finished 15th, their worst-ever finish.

Ruben Amorim-coached United also lost the Europa League final last week against Tottenham, squandering a golden opportunity to win a trophy in the 2024-25 season and placate the disgruntled fans.

The Red Devils would have hoped for some temporary relief from constant criticism as they flew down 6,600 miles to Malaysia; however, their biggest weakness, the lack of ability to score goals, quickly reared its head once again in their first match of the post-season tour to Asia.

It was hot and humid in Kuala Lumpur and Amorim was forced to make multiple changes as the club used 25 outfield players, but none of them found the net. The only goal in the match came from Myanmar winger Maung Maung Lwin in the second half as the ASEAN All-Stars secured a famous win over Manchester United in front of 72,550 fans at the Bukit Jalil Stadium.

The defeat led to loud jeering and boos against the Premier League side as fans were made to pay up to $350 (£260, Rs 30,000 approximately) to watch Manchester United’s return to Malaysia for the first time since 2009.

Amorim was quick to point out that this was a treatment his team deserved and hoped it would work as a wake-up call.

“I always feel guilty for the performance of the team since the first game I was here,” said Amorim. “The boos maybe is something we need because every game we lost in the Premier League the fans were always there. I felt when we finished every time the supporters were with us. Let’s see for next season.”

The Asian tour is reportedly set to help United earn $10m (£7.8m, Rs 85 crore approximately), but the team has already played 60 games in the season.
