Despite Manchester United suffering a defeat in their new Premier League season opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford , manager Ruben Amorim has made a bold claim, stating that the Red Devils are capable of winning any match in the league. United threatened on multiple occasions but could not find the final goal as Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory with Riccardo Calafiori heading a corner into the net for the visitors.

Nonetheless, Amorim, who mostly put up a frustrated figure last season in press conferences, looked upbeat as he underlined the progress his team has made.

Amorim praises United despite Arsenal defeat

The biggest positive was new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo creating a host of chances as United looked like a revamped side upfront.

“We have players to win any game in the Premier League,” said Amorim. “We were more aggressive than last year. We went one against one all the game and we pressed high. We had quality with the ball.”

“We did a lot things right,” Amorim added. “We were more aggressive and brave. In certain moments I think Bryan and Cunha helped a lot. We stuck to the plan even when the stadium was nervous, we continued to play the way we played and that will help us in the future.

“(The fans) want that feeling again. We go to Old Trafford and we are not going to get bored. We need to win more than last season but they want to see something and feel something.”

Amron speaks on Bayindir mistake

United, however, paid the price for a mistake by Altay Bayindir on an early corner. Arsenal defender William Saliba pushed into Bayindir as the Turkish goalkeeper swung the ball away weakly to Calafiori to score a header.

Amorim felt Saliba committed a foul, but added that if the law permits such physical play then United need to do the same.

“If you can watch the goal, I think (players) are allowed to do a lot of things in the corners. We need to do the same,” Amorim said. “But when you touch that way the goalkeeper, he needs to use his hands to catch the ball, not to push players, or he chooses to push players and let the ball past.

“But again, (it) is the rules. If he’s allowed, we need to do the same thing.”

Man United were forced to play Bayindir ahead of Andre Onana as the top-choice goalkeeper has had only three training sessions since recovering from an injury.

Amorim also ignored questions on whether the club will be bringing in another goalkeeper in the transfer market.
