Antony’s career at Manchester United looks to be almost over. According to reports, La Liga club Real Betis have reached an agreement in principle with United to bring the Brazilian winger to Spain on a permanent basis.

The 25-year-old has been left out of United’s first-team plans by new boss Ruben Amorim, who made it clear that Antony does not fit in his plans at Old Trafford. Antony has been on the sidelines for months and United are now ready to sell him.

Antony ‘one step away’ from moving to Real Betis

According to The Telegraph, Betis are working on a deal that will start as a loan but later become permanent. Transfer expert Nicolo Schira also confirmed this on social media, saying that Antony is one step away from returning to Spain.

Antony is one step away to return to Real Betis from Manchester United. Last details about the formula of the deal, but the winger wants to re-join Betis,” Schira wrote on X.

For United, this deal would save them around £150,000 per week in salary that were being paid to Antony. Club manager Ruben Amorim will also be relieved, as he has been trying to offload several unwanted players over the past few months. They will look to seal the deal before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Antony had a strong loan spell at Betis last season. He joined the La Liga side in January 2025 and scored nine goals and gave five assists in 26 matches. Antony also helped the club reach the Europa Conference League final, where they lost to Chelsea.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that Betis are in contact with United to sign 29-year-old Andre Onana. United are reportedly not happy with Onana as their goalkeeper and Altay Bayındır has started in both the EPL matches so far.

The other three players who are out of the squad are Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia. They were not taken for United’s 2025 pre-season tour. Amorim has said that if right offers don’t come before the transfer window closes, then they may have to return and join the team again.
