Antony and Real Betis coach react as Brazilian forward joins La Liga from Man Utd: 'Intense day'

While sharing pictures of him joining Real Betis, former Man Utd player Antony shared an interesting caption on social media while the La Liga side coach Manu Fajardo also reflected on how the Brazilian forward will help the club.

Manchester United flop Antony joined Real Betis on loan Saturday for the rest of the season as he looks to revive his career after a troubled spell at Old Trafford. He joined United from Ajax in 2022 at £86 million ($107m) on a contract till 2026 and made a bright start under then-manager Erik ten Hag.

Antony to Betis loan deal details

Antony, 24, scored three goals in his opening three league games for Manchester United before hitting poor form. He only scored 12 goals in 92 games for United, who are currently 13th in the Premier League.

While the details of the deal with Betis are still not out, local reports have stated that the La Liga side will cover a minimum of 84% of Antony’s £100,000 per week salary plus bonuses. Betis do not have an option to buy the player at the end of the loan contract.

“Everybody at United would like to wish Antony the best of luck for his spell in Seville,” the Premier League club said in a statement while announcing Antony’s departure.

The Brazilian forward had only played in 13 of United’s 32 games in all competitions this season.

Antony reacts to joining Betis from Man Utd

He will be looking to make a fresh start in Spain as he shared his first reaction on joining Betis on social media Saturday. “Intense day! Made a new story!” Antony wrote as he shared multiple pictures from his unveiling.

Real Betis coach Manu Fajardo has also welcomed Antony joining the squad.

“Antony’s arrival is exciting. The sports management and the coaching staff understood that we had to improve the second line. Antony is already with us, but we don’t have to single out any player.

“For the team to achieve its objectives, both Antony and the rest of the players must step forward and demonstrate on a daily basis, with maximum involvement and talent, that they can meet the objective for another year.”

Real Betis are ninth in the La Liga with 28 points from 21 matches. Their next match is against Athletic Club on 3 February.
