'It was very emotional at the end': PSG coach Luis Enrique pays emotional tribute to late daughter after Champions League win

Paris Saint-Germain created history on Saturday by winning their first-ever UEFA Champions League title. They achieved the feat in style by thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich. With this win, PSG also completed a famous treble - Ligue 1, French Cup, and the Champions League - a season their fans will never forget.

Enrique pays emotional tribute to late daughter

Meanwhile, PSG head coach Luis Enrique paid an emotional tribute to his daughter after the victory. After the final whistle, Enrique was seen wearing a special T-shirt that had an illustration of him and his late daughter, Xana, holding a PSG flag together. The gesture won hearts across the world.

Enrique’s special T-shirt was a throwback to 2015, when he had won the Champions League as Barcelona’s manager. Back then, his five-year-old daughter Xana had run onto the pitch and planted a Barcelona flag. Xana passed away in 2019 at the age of nine after a battle with bone cancer.

After the match, Enrique spoke to the media and said, “I’m very happy. It was very emotional at the end with the banner from the fans for my family. But I always think about my daughter. It means a lot. It’s so nice but I don’t need to win the Champions League to remember my daughter. My daughter is always with us, especially since we lost her.”

PSG record biggest victory in Champions League final

PSG played an amazing game and completely outclassed Inter Milan, even though the Italian side had more experience in terms of the average age of the squads. They scored two quick goals in the first 20 minutes - one by former Inter player Achraf Hakimi and the other by 19-year-old Doue.

Doue scored again in the 63rd minute, making it his second goal of the night. He was subbed out immediately after that. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia added PSG’s fourth goal of the night just 10 minutes later. Near the end of the game, substitute Senny Mayulu also found the net to make it 5-0, the biggest victory ever in the Champions League final.
