Liverpool went level with Manchester United as the joint-most successful clubs in English football history after clinching the Premier League title with four rounds still left in the 2024-25 season on Sunday. Dutch manager Arne Slot helped the Reds win their second top-flight title of the ‘Premier League’ era in his first season in charge after succeeding Jurgen Klopp in the role last summer.
Liverpool confirmed their triumph after thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at the Anfield on Sunday, taking their points tally to 82 – 15 more than Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who currently face the prospect of finishing runners-up for a third consecutive season.
LFC’s triumph, however, has also put the spotlight on a unique achievement.

Liverpool had become the most recent Premier League champion, winning their first title since the revamped top division hosted its inaugural season in 1992-93. And given their celebrations in the summer of 2020 were muted due to the COVID pandemic, Liverpool experienced the joy of celebrating a Premier League title in front of a packed house for the first time on Sunday.
In the process, the ‘Reds’ became the fifth team after Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal to win the Premier League more than once. United remain the most successful club in the competition’s history with 13 titles and followed by City with 8. Chelsea and Arsenal have won five and three titles each, the latter having last won more than two decades ago.
Blackburn Rovers, who currently compete in the second division, and Leicester City have one title each, the latter stunning the entire football world by winning the 2015-16 season where they had 5000-1 odds of emerging champions.
What’s interesting, though, is that we get a Fibonacci sequence when looking at the number of titles won by each team in Premier League history in reverse order. A Fibonacci series, which typically starts with a 0 and/or a 1, is one where a number is the sum of the two preceding numbers.

Whether the club and its players are aware of their unique feat or not is something that remains to be see. Slot and the rest of the boys, though, will be setting their sights on finishing the season on a high, preferably with a victory in each of their remaining games before shifting their attention to the summer transfer market.
