Kerala Blasters vs Punjab FC, ISL 2024-25 Preview: Kerala Blasters will be eyeing a strong start to their Indian Super League (ISL) campaign when they host Punjab FC at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi in the only fixture on Sunday.
The Blasters have finished runners-up in the ISL thrice — in the inaugural edition in 2014 as well as in 2016 and 2021-22 — and will be hoping to end their decade-long wait for a maiden title this season.
The Blasters, who start on a fresh note following Mikael Stahre’s appointment as coach following Ivan Vukomanovic’s three-year reign as Tuskers boss, had scored plenty of goals in the pre-season as well as in the Durand Cup despite letting go of Greek striker Dimitrios Diamantakos, who made his East Bengal debut against Bengaluru FC on Saturday.
Punjab FC, meanwhile, will be hoping for a better run this time around after finishing 8th on ISL debut last season. The Mohali-based outfit had lost 10 out of their 22 matches during the league stage besides winning six and drawing as many.
Among those six wins was a 3-1 victory over the Blasters. The two teams had also played out a 1-1 draw in the recently-concluded Durand Cup, in which Punjab progressed as far as the quarter-finals.
