Mohun Bagan Super Giant etched its name in Indian Super League (ISL) history by successfully defending the League Winners Shield, securing a 1-0 victory over Odisha FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Sunday. The Mariners dominated the season and shattered multiple records en route to their second consecutive league triumph.

Mohun Bagan’s record-breaking feat

Mohun Bagan Super Giant became the first team to breach the 50-point mark in ISL history, accumulating 16 wins, four draws, and just two losses from 22 matches.

With their triumph over Odisha FC, Mohun Bagan secured its 16th victory of the season, making them the team with the most wins in a single ISL campaign.

The Mariners still have two fixtures remaining against Mumbai City FC and FC Goa, giving them the opportunity to extend their record to 18 wins in 24 matches, a staggering win percentage of 75%.

MBSG turned their home ground into a fortress, winning nine matches at home, the highest ever in ISL history. With one final home fixture against FC Goa, they have the chance to increase this record to 10 wins.

20 of their 43 goals this season have come from set-pieces, making them the most prolific team in ISL history in this aspect.

Goalkeeper Vishal Kaith reached a historic milestone, becoming the first-ever goalkeeper to register 50 clean sheets in ISL history.

Additionally, Mohun Bagan’s defense achieved a remarkable feat by going 570 minutes without conceding a goal, the longest streak by any team in the league’s history.

Mohun Bagan also became the first team to successfully defend their Indian Super League (ISL) title.

With two matches left, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has the opportunity to further enhance its record-breaking campaign. As they lift the League Winners Shield, the focus now shifts to the ISL playoffs, where they will aim to complete a double by securing the ISL Cup as well.
