Igor Stimac and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) have reportedly reached an agreement on the compensation package where the Indian federation will pay the Croatian coach $400,000 (approximately Rs 3.36 crore) after tax. Stimac was sacked as Indian men’s football team coach on 17 June after India failed to reach the third round of FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

Stimac had a contract till 2026 but no ’termination clause’. He asked for $920,000 (approximately Rs 7.72 crore) as compensation – two year’s salary and also took the AIFF to FIFA. The Hindustan Times has now reported that AIFF under deputy secretary-general Satyanarayan Muthyalu and new secretary-general Anilkumar Prabhakaran continued negotiations with Stimac and after numerous rounds of talks, $400,000 (approximately Rs 3.36 crore) after tax was agreed as the compensation package.

The report also added that Stimac turned down five and then 10 months’ salary as compensation. The former footballer earned $30,000 (nearly Rs 25.19 lakh) monthly as India coach.

The mega compensation package to Stimc is one of the reasons AIFF had to hire new head coach Manolo Marquez on the condition that he will also coach FC Goa during the 2024-25 season.
