Former Manchester City defender Mark Seagraves feels that England will have an edge going into the Euro 2024 final due to their experience compared to Spain, who rely on their young players. Lamine Yamal (17), Nico Williams (22), and Gavi (19) have played a major role in firing the La Roja into the final while the England side is full of experienced players like Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Kane and Jordan Pickford.
“I think England will have better odds. They’ve had a penalty shootout already and they’ve had the loss of the last Euros against Italy fresh in their mind also. I know they do an awful lot of practice on penalties after every training session,” Seagraves during a media interaction arranged by Sony Sports Network.
“So, their experience will stand them in good stead. I do think it’s gonna be a really tight game. If there’s an early goal, then, obviously, the gloves are off and both teams will go hard at it. But, I do believe that England will hold the aces in that respect.”
Seagraves believes England coach Gareth Southgate “should resign” even if the Three Lions win the Euro 2024 trophy.
“I think he should step down. He’s had enough time to do what he’s been doing. He’s obviously brought the team on to such a level. But he needs to win, doesn’t he? He needs to win this. If he doesn’t win it, he’s definitely out but even if he does win it he should resign and you know he’s talking about where it can go now he’s had a lot of good squads underneath him for the last eight to ten years that he’s been in charge he’s revolutionised English football in terms of internationally and how they are professionally and I think it’s time for him to bow out.”
