Erling Haaland is set to spend the majority of his career at Manchester City as he signed a nine-and-half-year contract on Friday that will keep him at the English Premier League club till 2034. Haaland joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and had a contract until 2027.
It’s important to note that the new contract extension also removes all release clauses from the deal between Haaland and City which means the club has a strong belief that the Norwegian will keep getting better and could possibly enter the legendary status that is enjoyed by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Haaland signs mega deal at City
Despite City struggling for results in the ongoing season and Haaland for goals, the 24-year-old has scored 16 goals in 21 matches and made one assist. Haaland has scored 79 Premier League goals so far with an average of 0.9 goals per game
“I am going to stay for a long time,” Haaland said. “Now I can fully focus on getting better because I am going to stay here for such a long time. Full focus on performing and getting better to give all of the fans what they want. It has gone really quick. It feels like I signed a moment ago. It has been going really quick and that is a good thing. It means I am enjoying it.
“For two-and-a-half years as a City player I have been winning loads of trophies, playing loads of good football, having so many great moments together with the whole club and with the fans. I still remember the rainy parade [after the treble] which was maybe the biggest and best moment because it was a typical Manchester parade. It has been amazing and like a dream in this two and a-half years.”
Haaland signs £260 million contract: How much do other big footballers earn?
As per The Sun in the UK, Haaland will earn £260 million over the length of his contract. His per week salary is going to rise from £375,000 to £500,000.
The baffling thing, however, is that Haaland is not the highest-paid footballer in the world. He is in fact only the ninth highest-paid footballer as far as per week salary is concerned.
Ronaldo, who now plays for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, makes £3.3 million per week and is the highest-earning footballer in the world , while Neywmar and Karim Benzema, who also play in the Middle Eastern country, also make over 1 million pounds a week.
