East Benga FC Monday announced head coach Carles Cuadrat has resigned from his post following a run of three losses in as many matches at the start of the new Indian Super League (ISL) season. The former Bengaluru FC coach helped Eeat Bengal end their 12-year drought with the Super Cup trophy win in January this year.
“#EastBengalFC regretfully announces the departure of Carles Cuadrat as Head Coach following his resignation,” East Bengal said on the social media platform “X’. “Coach Carles led us to the Kalinga Super Cup title earlier this year and a runners-up finish in last year’s Durand Cup. We thank him for his contributions and wish him the best for the future. "
The Kolkata giants also announced that assistant coach Bino George will fill in for Cuadrat as long as East Bengal make a new announcement.
“Bino George will be the interim Head Coach of the team. We’ll make further announcements in due course.”
East Bengal spent a whopping Rs. 5.8 crore reportedly in the transfer market to buy players like Dimitrios Diamantakos, Madih Talal, Jeakson Singh, and Anwar Ali but the start to the season has left the fans and the club officials disappointed.
“The Emami East Bengal FC management appreciates Coach Carles for guiding the team to the Kalinga Super Cup title and AFC continental competitions after a long hiatus. We wish him the best in his future endeavours,” said Vibhash Vardhan Agarwal of Emami Group.
“The Emami East Bengal FC management requests the Red & Gold Brigade fans to support its interim Head Coach Bino George and the team to deliver better results.”
