Their quarter-final against Ecuador went to penalties after Lisandro Martinez’s goal that gave Argentina the lead was canceled out by a Kevin Rodriguez equalizer in the second half injury time. Argentina won 4-2 on penalties, and they had it relatively easy against Canada in the semi-final, winning it 2-0 on the back of goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi.
