UEFA Champions League draw Highlights: It’s almost time for the 2024-25 season of the UEFA Champions League that will get underway on 17 September. This season will witness the introduction of a brand new format and more teams.
A total of 36 teams will compete in the UEFA Champions League this season onwards, instead of 32 which was the case earlier.
Previously, 32 teams were divided into eight groups of four, but this season onwards, the first round of the tournament will be played in a single league format. In the new format, teams will not face three other teams twice, as was the case before. Instead, teams will take on eight different teams in the league stage with four matches at home and four away.
The top eight teams in the league directly qualify for the last 16, whereas teams placed between ninth and 24th will lock horns in a playoff contest to determine who advances to the last 16. The teams that finish below 24th are eliminated.
Real Madrid are defending champions of the Champions League.
