Liverpool manager Arne Slot remained mum on the team’s acquisition of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak while discussing forward Darwin Nunez's move to Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal . Slot, who helped Liverpool win their second Premier League title in his maiden season with the Reds, refusing to comment on a player the club is yet to formally sign even if they have been targeting him throughout the summer.
‘We never talk about players that aren’t yours’
“As you know, we never talk about players that aren’t yours. I can talk about Hugo who signed recently,” Slot told reporters ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield showdown against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.
“We are very happy with the squad we are having. Okay, players left but we brought players in as well and youngsters are doing good. Darwin might leave but things aren’t signed yet. We need to wait a few days before things are done,” he added.
Slot was referring to the acquisition of French forward Hugo Ekitike, who joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79 million ($106.18 million).

Liverpool, however, have had an offer of £110 million ($147.84 million) for Swedish striker Isak turned down by the Magpies , who reportedly aren’t willing to sell him for anything less than £150 million. It remains to be seen if Slot’s side make a renewed offer for the 25-year-old before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
Isak had missed Newcastle’s tour of Asia, which included a friendly fixture against Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul, and opted to instead train in Spain at the training ground of his former club Real Sociedad. He has since rejoined his teammates and is training with the club , but isn’t expected to be included in manager Eddie Howe’s plans for upcoming friendlies and beyond.
As for Liverpool, the 20-time English top-flight champions have had quite the busy summer so far, adding seven players to their squad including Florian Wirtz, who has been their biggest signing so far at £116 million, and Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5 million or $39.65 million) from Bayer Leverkusen. They have also signed Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez for £49 million ($65.86 million).
