Indian defender Anwar Ali has reportedly been handed a four-month suspension by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for unjustifiably terminating his four-year loan deal with Indian Super League (ISL) side Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG). The Kolkata giants are also set to receive a compensation of Rs 12.90 crore after Anwar Ali ended his four-year loan contract with MBSG to join East Bengal FC.
Anwar Ali’s parent club Delhi FC and East Bengal have also been barred from registering new players for two transfer windows by the AIFF’s Players’ Statue Committee (PSC).
“Anwar Ali will serve a four-month sporting ban, while East Bengal and Delhi FC will face two transfer window bans, starting from the January transfer window. All three parties - Anwar Ali, Delhi FC and East Bengal - must pay Rs 12.90 crores in compensation to Mohun Bagan,” AIFF’s Players’ Statue Committee (PSC) was quoted as saying by media reports.
The PSC in August in an interim order had said that Anwar Ali terminated the agreement with Mohun Bagan “without a just cause”.
One of the best defenders in India, Anwar was seen as an invaluable addition to the East Bengal side.
“With Anwar, we have secured another national team player who will bring invaluable experience to our squad. His quality and physical presence are key to the team we are building for the future,” East Bengal head coach Carles Cuadrat had said after signing Anwar Ali.
Now the club will have to wait for four more months to have Anwar Ali available. The ban started on the day of judgment which is 10 September 2024.
