India suffered their second defeat of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in as many matches, going down to Uzbekistan with a 3-0 margin in their Group B game in Al Rayyan on Thursday. This follows a 0-2 loss to Australia in their opening Group B encounter at the same venue five days back. Following two defeats, India’s knockout hopes have taken a fresh blow and will have to all but secure a win against Syria on 23 January to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stage. First half goals from Fayzullaev, Sergeev and Nasrulloev saw Uzbekistan head to the half-time break with a 3-0 lead, a scoreline they would eventually maintain until the end of the match.
