Football has no borders: Photo of kid wearing Messi 'jersey' in war-torn Iraq goes viral

Football has no borders. From lush green grounds to war-torn landscape, one can find the spirit of the beautiful game everywhere.

An image of a little kid in conflict-ridden Iraq wearing a DIY-jersey of Leo Messi is proving to be the picture worth those 1,000 words. The picture of a boy wearing a white-with-blue stripes plastic bag with 'Messi 10' painted on it is being shared on the social media with many trying to track the child down. The plastic bag jersey resembles Messi's Argentina shirt.

According to a report in BuzzFeed, Turkish blogs claim the image was taken in war-torn Dohuk region in Iraq and was being shared online in Turkey and is now going  viral all over the world.

It is unclear when the photo was taken and people on social media are trying to catch the attention of the of the Barcelona forward himself, so maybe he could locate the kid and give him a real jersey to wear.

A popular Messi fan-page on Twitter, @messi10stats, however, tweeted that the superstar's team had reached out to them wanting to know who the kid was so something could be done.

If Messi's team has indeed tried to reach out, it is a commendable gesture. Here's hoping the kid not only gets a real Messi jersey, but also gets to meet his hero. Who knows, maybe one day he'll have a jersey of his own.
