Fixing it: Confidential ACSU report casts doubt over 2011 WC, IPL 4

The ICC’s (International Cricket Council) Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) covered 470 matches and 200 practice sessions to compile a confidential report which casts suspicion on the sanctity of the 2011 World Cup and IPL 4. A Mail Today article says that the ACSU’s report mentions ‘SB’ as the mastermind of the illegal network which made attempts to approach players. It also mentions SB’s associates — code-named AZ and BRY. The players were advised by ACSU to stay clear of these individuals. Two players went to the ACSU after they were approached. The report also mentions another agent, VG. However, a lot of high-profile players from different teams could have been in touch with these agents. SB’s each move, including trips to Sri Lanka and Dubai in 2011, were tracked, as were his business dealings,” the ACSU report states. It goes on to say that another top bookie, ‘JS’, offered the brother of a top player 50 lakh to throw a match. The ACSU then put the 2010 ODI series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe under the scanner, after which they went all out into investigating the games. The names of bookies were kept secret even from the ICC Board. Click here to read the full report.
