'Even Mulayam's Saifai was better': Twitter reacts to WC opening ceremony

FIFA World Cup 2014 began in Brazil yesterday with the opening ceremony kicking off in the Itaquerao Stadium. However, fans who were expecting a carnival style opening ceremony were in for a disappointment as they were greeted by dancers dressed like football robots, trees, flowers and everything else not associated with a carnival. Jennifer Lopez, rapper Pitbull and pop star Claudia Leitte bounced around a giant stage resembling a peeled melon singing the World Cup theme “We Are One”. The only problem was that the globe/melon suddenly stopped moving and JLo and Pitbull had to jump on the stage. And Pitbull’s white pants grabbed the spotlight outshining even JLo who was dressed in low-cut sparkling green leotard. AP[/caption] At one point at the end of the ceremony, fans chanted and booed against Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and soccer’s governing body, FIFA. In fact, Brazil has been facing fierce protests by people who are of the opinion that the government has diverted funds meant for the poor and infrastructure development to put up a dazzling show. They have similar allegations against the 2016 Rio Olympic. Of course Twitter, took the opening ceremony apart.
