“When you look at match players in the history of tennis, I don’t believe that anybody can equal everything on the court that (Novak) Djokovic does. I don’t think you can find a weakness in his game. His movement, personality, his return of serve, his serve, excellent touch, not hesitant in coming to the net, great serve. Over all, almost every player has a downfall; to me he doesn’t have one. He’s perhaps the best put-together player that I’ve seen over 60 years.” And those are not anybody’s words. Those are the words of the legendary coach Nick Bollettieri — and as this New York Times blog puts it, you have to sit up and listen when a man like that says them. Bollettieri has coached some of tennis’ biggest names for four decades and the straight-talking coach says that despite Roger Federer being such a big attraction at Wimbledon, he will find it extremely hard to win. [caption id=“attachment_901667” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Djokovic - the most complete player ever? AP[/caption] “I believe for Roger Federer to win this tournament, he has to come forward a lot more. I don’t believe that a one-handed backhand today has the chance, match after match against two-handed players. When you’re up against Djokovic with that two-handed backhand, Murray with the two-handed backhand and then Nadal with that heavy, heavy crosscourt forehand, the one-handed backhand will probably come behind. And now that the grass is thicker, the ball bounces higher and that doesn’t go in Federer’s favour.” And that’s as perfect an analysis you’ll find. But Bollettieri didn’t just have words of praise for Djokovic. He also conceded that Andy Murray, one of the favourites for the title, is a far better player than last time out. He believes the Scotsman, under the influece of coach Ivan Lendl, has improved his positioning and shot seletion. Bollottieri rounds up a list of American names he thinks can become stars in the future, but with the emergence of Jamie Hampton, Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys, he is certain about one thing: “I believe that the American girls right now are much stronger than our American boys.” Click here to read the full blog on NY Times.
