Delhi Police chargesheet names Dawood as kingpin of IPL fixing scandal

The Delhi Police have filed the IPL spot-fixing case chargesheet and it names underworld don Dawoob Ibrahim as the kingpin of the racket, along with his close aide Chhota Shakeel and some cricketers, including S Sreesanth, as accused while Rajasthan Royals’ captain Rahul Dravid has been made a witness. The chargesheet also questions the Board of Control for Cricket in India as to what they did to stop spot-fixing. It says that the Indian Premier League provided an atmosphere conducive to fixing. Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, among others, have also been named as co-accused in the chargesheet. [caption id=“attachment_997071” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Dawood. IBN-Live](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/dawood3801.jpg) The chargesheet names underworld don Dawoob Ibrahim as the kingpin of the racket. IBN-Live[/caption] The charge sheet, filed before link Additional Sessions Judge Vinay Kumar Khanna, said that as per the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report on call intercepts, one of the voices has been identified as that of Dawood and a witness has identified the don’s voice and number. The police filed the 6,000-page charge sheet against 39 persons in which eight are in judicial custody, 21 are out on bail and rest 10 are absconding. All the accused have been chargesheeted for offences of cheating and conspiracy under IPC and provisions of stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The police also moved an application in the court for cancellation of bail granted to Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and 19 others. The court has fixed the plea for tomorrow before the concerned judge. The police have relied on a total of 295 documents and 168 persons, including cricketers Rahul Dravid, Harmeet Singh and Siddharth Trivedi of Rajasthan Royals, who have been made prosecution witnesses in the case. The chargesheet also blames that the negligible security in hotels gave bookies free access to players in hotels. The other accused named in the charge sheet are Javed Chutani, Salman, Manoj Guddewar, Amit Kumar, Jiju Janardhan, Chandresh Patel, Ramakant Aggarwal, Rakesh, Kiran Dole, Mohd Yahya, Manan, Ajay Goel, Love Garg, Amit Gupta, Bhupender Nagar, Sunil Saxena, Sayed Durez Ahmed, Vikash Chowdhury, Vinod Sharma, Nitin Jain, Abhishek Shukla and Jitender Jain. The police had on May 16 arrested Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan of Rajasthan Royals on the charges of cheating and conspiracy. Police also slapped provisions of MCOCA against the accused, saying they were acting under the command of Dawood and Chhota Shakeel. In the same case, the court had on June 10 granted bail to Sreesanth, Chavan and 19 for lack of evidence against them to be charged under MCOCA. With inputs from PTI
