Overall, three matches are left and the first player to reach 7.5 points will be declared as the winner.

Ding Lire, 32, of China and the current world champion will be playing with the favoured white pieces in Game 12 against India’s 18-year-old chess sensation Gukesh who has so far won two games – Game 3 and Game 11. Liren’s only win came in Game 1, however, he will look to make the most of the white pieces advantage in Game 12 against Gukesh.

A win today will put Gukesh on the brink of the World Chess Championship 2024 title where he will need just one more draw A draw will also not be bad result, considering he is playing with black pieces. However, a loss could handover the initiative to Ding who won the World Chess Championship in 2023.
