In a development that has shocked many in the cricket fratnernity, England player James Taylor has been forced to retire from cricket due to a serious heart condition. Taylor’s condition came to light after the Nottinghamshire cricketer withdrew from a match against Cambridge MCCU last week after believing it to be a case of viral infection, according to a report on mirror.co.uk. Getty Images[/caption] However, specialist scans later revealed his case to be that of a serious heart condition, which is believed to be a case of ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Arrhythmia), according to a report on The Guardian. England team director and former captain Andrew Strauss expressed shock and sadness at Taylor’s retirement. “Throughout his career, he has constantly impressed with his determination to make the absolute most of his ability. “It is immensely cruel that such a hard working player will be unable to fulfil his great potential in the international arena,” Strauss was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. Taylor has since then posted messages on his social media accounts, stating that it had “been the toughest week of his life for him”.

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club also released a statement on Twitter expressing their sadness over the same.

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell said no one at Trent Bridge had any idea about the severity of Taylor’s condition. “Myself and all of James’ team-mates and colleagues are terribly sad to hear this news, which comes as a big shock to us all,” Newell said. “He is a model professional, the most hard-working I’ve ever known in cricket, making it all the more difficult to accept that his career has been cut short in this way. “It goes without saying that he has the very best wishes of us all in terms of recovering from his operation, and that we are looking forward to seeing him back at Trent Bridge when he is fit and able.” Taylor represented England in seven Tests and 27 One-Day Internationals, averaging 42 in the latter with the bat, since making his international debut in 2011. He was part of England’s squad for the 2015 World Cup, in which he scored an unbeaten 98 in the opening game against Australia, and brought up his maiden ODI century in Manchester during the bilateral ODI series against the same opponents on home soil later that summer.
