Crowd Verdict: The problem is not the IPL, it's the players

This topic has been discussed ad nauseam but still every time India loses a Test match, the first excuse is always the IPL. But is it right to blame the T20 League that has made millionaires of the players? Our readers don’t think it is. The IPL more than any other format asks the players to alter their batting and bowling styles and unlike international T20 matches – which are played only every once in a while – an IPL season is played over two months. So day in and day out – the batsmen look to hit sixes and the bowlers look to contain. After a while, the saying goes, it becomes second nature to them. And they never quite manage to adapt in time for Tests. However, if the players truly want a way out of this, they can abstain from the tournament completely. Here’s what our followers on Facebook had to say in reply to our question: Is IPL destroying Test Cricket. Anurag Tandon: It seems to be destroying only India’s test team - no other country seems to be suffering so much from the ill effects of IPL!!! Balaji Karthik Money-minded IPL is cancer of Indian cricket. There is no real cricket or patriotism in IPL. So stop IPL to save the game of gentlemen. [caption id=“attachment_176874” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Our readers say the IPL is not a factor in India’s dismal performance down under”] ![](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/ipl_AFP_opt.jpg "CRICKET-T20-IPL-IND-KOLKATA-MUMBAI") [/caption] Ramprasad Rajaraman: No, I don’t think IPL is destroying test cricket. Its just another format. People who have ambition to play cricket at the intl level ipl is giving the platform. May be there seems to be an illusion since it is being played only 20 overs. If that is the case then why (play) odis which is also played with the same white ball. The red cherry is what all matters, if players are skillful in red cherry carry on with that, no one is compelling them to play ipl. if u see ipl has shown lot of young talents in india, who can do the same gimmicks with red cherry as well, just that they need time. Take an example u had a long bus journey of 10 hrs and then suddenly you are asked to go in a 20 hr train journey and then you are asked to go in a 30 hr bus journey…how will be ur feeling you will still like floating in the bus. After some time u will get the confident and more comfortable like how u r in plane. so here flight is like t20, train is like odi and the bus is test cricket. The presence of many players who shed their blood in hot sun of Ranji matches which no one watches including the selectors, this IPL can proudly say that it shed light on them and made them visible. Mohan Kumar G: Certainly yes. Most of the players are failing to adjust from one form of cricket to other. May be India can form different teams for different formats of the game. Swapnil Wankhade: More than IPL it is flat wickets in INDIA that are destroying abilities of players to play on foreign soil. Ravi Rajput: IPL mein kya khela jata hai? Cricket. Aur test cricket mein bhi cricket hi kheli jati h. Aussies aur England mein to humare desh se pahle chal rha hai, har ek bad excuses acche nahi hote. Or na sor karne se kuch hoga, apne khel ko sudharo bas. Animesh Dutta: From my point of view, IPL is the best format for youngsters. I don’t think it should be stopped or banned. But i suggest the best players or the players who play for india they should not play IPL. The franchises are looking to fill their pockets but they didn’t think about our indian cricket. Some of Australian players like Ponting, Clarke and some players from South Africa like Amla they didn’t play cricket like T20 in the county format. So i think IPL should not banned or stopped because Indian cricket needs so many young talents. But plz franchises, don’t force to play our great cricketers like tendulkar sir, dravid, gambhir or some others players.
