Compton's half century puts Eng on top against Haryana

Ahmedabad: Opener Nick Compton notched his second half-century of the match Saturday as England reached 118-0 in its second innings after taking a 188-run first-innings lead over Haryana on the third day of a four-day practice game ahead of its test series in India. Compton scored an unbeaten 54, following his first-innings knock of 74. Trott was not out on 61 after being promoted to opener with captain Alastair Cook holding himself back. Compton has so far struck seven fours and Trott 10 fours as England leads by 306 runs with all 10 second-innings wickets intact. AP[/caption] Earlier, opener Rahul Dewan carried Haryana, his 144 not out coming off 320 balls with 17 fours. Dewan, who has been a regular on the domestic circuit for four seasons, saw wickets fall at regular intervals when the team resumed on its overnight score of 172-4 before he forged a 60-run ninth-wicket stand with Chanderpal Saini (35). England pace bowlers Tim Bresnan and Stuart Meaker took three wickets each but the two left-arm spinners in the game could not make a breakthrough. Monty Panesar managed just one wicket in 29 overs while Samit Patel took two in 16 overs.
