Commonwealth Games Live: Sushil, Amit, Vinesh win three wrestling golds for India

Commonwealth Games Live: Sushil, Amit, Vinesh win three wrestling golds for India

India's full schedule and results Boxing Sumit Sangwan and Manoj Kumar were both in contention for a bronze if they would have won their quarterfinal bouts – however, both have lost out — against D Nyika of New Zealand and S Maxwell of England respectively. Bronze for Chandrakant Mali Chandrakant Mali wins bronze in the 94kg event in weightlifting with a total lift of 338kg (150kg in snatch and 188kg in clean & jerk). PNG’s SK Kari wins gold with total lift of 349kg and Aussie S Ribouem takes silver with 349kg (his body-weight was more than Kari) Sushil Kumar’s GOLD! Sushil Kumar against Pakistan’s Qamar Abbas in the men’s 74 kg was a no contest really. Sushil was too experienced, too strong for the young Pakistani wrestler. Sushil was leading 6-2 and then managed to pin the Pakistani wrestler. Victory by fall. Rajeev Tomar never got going against Korey Jarvis of Canada in the final and had to settle for the bronze. He lost 0-3. Women’s 50m Rifle 3 position FINALS Shooter Lajja Gauswami wins bronze medal in women’s 50m Rifle 3 position at CWG. Singapore’s J Ser won with a total of 449.1 (a Finals Games Record) and Scotland’s J McIntosh came second with 446.6. - Elimination rounds: 407.3, 415.9, 425.2, 436.1. - Standing: 397.2 – still third - Gauswami shoots 141.9 in prone, still third with total 289.2. - Lajja Gauswami is 3rd after shooting 147.3 in kneeling position. Westling golds for India! GOLD MEDAL!!! Two gold medals in a row for India from the wrestlers. India’s Vinesh wins the women’s 48kg FS category. A hard fought match but Vinesh managed to beat England’s Y Rattigan 11-8. It was tough and go till the end. GOLD MEDAL!!! Amit Kumar gets the gold medal in the men’s FS 57kg. He beat Nigeria’s E Welson 6-2. Kumar took the early lead and went up 4-0 before the Nigerian got back 2 points. But the Indian was too quick, got another two points and clinched the gold medal. Men’s 50m Rifle 3 positions FINALS After 45 shots, Sanjeev Rajput (446.9) ends up with a silver. Narang (436.8 pts) gets the bronze (he shot 9.1 with his last shot and slipped into bronze). Eng’s Daniel Rivers (452.9) wins gold – he was a class apart. After 40 shots, Narang into 2nd position, Rajput in 3rd. Narang moved up. After 35 shots, Rajput moves into 2nd position, Narang in 3rd. They have done well in standing. After 30 shots, Rajput moves into 4th position, Narang still in 6th. After 25 shots, Rajput still in 5th position, Narang in 6th. Good round for Rajput – closed the gap a little. After 20 shots, Rajput is in 5th position, Narang in 6th. The wind is not making it easy. It is about to begin. India have Rajput and Narang in the fray. Boxing Laishram Devi enters quarters of Women’s 57-60 kg category. Hockey: India vs Australia - FT Australia 4-2 India - Australia scores via a penalty stroke to push the lead back up to two goals. AUS 4-2 IND. - Ramandeep scores India’s second goal against Australia. Brilliant. AUS 3-2 IND - Second half begins - Rupinderpal Singh’s strike means India go in at half-time trailing 1-3 against Australia. Shooting - Harpreet Singh has won SILVER in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol with 21 points. - BRONZE for Manvjit Sandhu in men’s trap after a shoot-off with Australia’s Diamond after both had 11/15 at the end of their allotted shots. Wrestling - Amit Kumar (men’s 57kg) and Vinesh (women’s 48kg) have also reached the finals in their categories. What a show from India’s wrestlers so far. Tomar vs Carney in semis - Carney pushed out and then turned around by Tomar with brilliant technical precision. That will be the match then - Tomar winning after a 10-point lead opens up. It’s 11-1 to the Indian in 4 minutes 22 seconds. - Tomar pushes out Carney once again, before getting behind him. Comfortable leads 8-1 now. - Carney pushes out Tomar and then Tomar gives him the same treatment. India lead 5-1 in first period. - 4-0 now as Tomar gets behind again - he looks to turn it into more points but the referee asks them both to get up. - Carney runs away a few paces from Tomar, but the Indian latches on and gets in behind to get take a two-point lead within 2 minutes. Sushil vs Bibo in semis: - Bibo has been given two points because Sushil has been to passive. The Indian sees the match off 8-4, is guaranteed SILVER! - Two more points for Sushil as he gets in behind - 50 seconds to go and it’s 8-2 - Sushil’s blood being cleaned off wrestling mat—he catches his breath, is cleaned up and is back. Leads 6-2. - Sushil leads 6-0 in 2 minute 55 seconds. - Sushil takes a quick 4-0 lead in 1 minute 4 seconds for getting in behind and a roll-over. ————– - In the 57kg event, Amit Kumar beats Mauritius’ JG Bandoo by fall. He then beat South African B Masunyane 4-0 to enter the semis. - In the 74kg event, Sushil Kumar completely overpowers Australian J Lawrence 11-0. He then beat Sri Lanka’s K Sandrage as in now in the semis. - In the 125kg event, Rajeev Tomar defeats Nigeria’s S Boltic 12-2 (he was 0-2 down and turned it around) to enter semis. Shooting - Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput make the cut and will shoot in the rifle three position finals. - Vijay Kumar misses out! He finishes 8th with 274 points. However, Harpreet Singh is into the finals after finishing 4th with 281 points. Gagan Narang, Sanjeev Rajput, Harpreet Singh and Vijay Kumar are all in their qualifying rounds currently. While Gagan and Sanjeev are in the rifle three position, Vijay and Harpreet are vying for a place in the finals of 25m rapid fire pistol.
