Commonwealth Games 2014: Rahi Sarnobat, Apurvi Chandela star for India on Day 3

Click here for full schedule of the Commonwealth Games 2014. Squash: Ghosal wins in five! India’s Sourav Ghosal beat New Zealand’s Campbell Grayson 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 to move into the semi-finals of the men’s singles competition. Super stuff by Ghosal. Another weightlifting medal for India India’s Omkar Otari (69kg wtlifting) has won the bronze medal with a combined total of 296 kg. Malaysia’s Mansor took the gold with a combined total of 305 kg while Nigeria’s Ayenuwa took the silver with a total of 301 kg. India add bronze as Rajwinder Kaur wins in judo; Kumar, Pathania lose out Rajwinder Kaur beat Kenaya’s EA Ratugi in the +78kg category by conceding fewer penalties. But it was disappointment for Parikshit Kumar and Sahil Pathania who could have added two more bronze medals but were beaten by Aussie J Andrewartha and Kiwi T Slyfield respectively. JD Chongtham also lost her bronze medal contest 0-2 to Cameroon’s Mballa Atangana in the -78kg class. Another gold and silver for India! Rahi Sarnobat wins gold and Anisa Sayyed silver in 25m Air pistol event - detailed report here . https://twitter.com/virenrasquinha/status/493078911945670657 Boxing results India’s Manoj Kumar has won in the 64kg weight category in the round of 32. He beat Lesotho M Moshoeshoe on a points decision. Vijender Kumar won his bout in the 75 kg category to enter Pre-QFs. He beat Andrew Kometa of Kiribati. Weightlifting: Women’s 58 kg Weightlifting results India’s Meena Kumari finished 5th with a total of 194 kgs. She went for broke towards the end in a bid to get the bronze but couldn’t complete the lift in the clean and jerk. England’s 20-year-old Zoe Smith won the gold with a total of 210kg. Shooting Women’s 25m Pistol GOLD & SILVER assured for India. Rahi Sarnobat & & Anisa Sayyed to faceoff for the Gold MEDAL. Rahi shot 16 and Sayyed 14 in the 5 series. The gold medal match will start at 2215 IST. Hockey: India vs Scotland FT: India 6-2 Scotland. 69th min: GOAL! Another goal for the Scots, through a PC. Well deflected into the goal. They have fought well in the last 10 minutes. Full credit to them. India 6-2 Scotland. 56th min: GOAL! This time the Scots have a goal. The home crowd can finally cheer. India 6-1 Scotland. 48th min: GOAL! Now, Rupinder from a PC. The two PC specialists are turning it on. It wasn’t stopped well but Rupinder was just too good. India 6-0 Scotland. 45th min: GOAL! Raghunath gets his second goal of the match and third of the tournament. This time he went low and put all his power behind it. Brilliant. India 5-0 Scotland. 39th min: GOAL! Super flick by Chandi off a nice cross gets India their fourth goal. Very classy. This is more like it. This was the India we were expecting to see. India 4-0 Scotland. 36th min: GOAL! Rupinder Singh scores from a PC. He hit it straight at the Scottish goalkeeper, who couldn’t respond in time. India in comfort zone now. India 3-0 Scotland. HT: India did enough to get the lead and stay there. 23 mins: GOAL! Super PC from Raghunath. He got a lot of power behind the scoop to the right of the keeper. India 2-0 Scotland. 20 mins: India are keeping possession well but it seems like they haven’t really decided to go on an all out attack. Scotland are hanging on. India 1-0 Scotland. 15 mins: India have failed to make any further inroads. Scotland have managed to keep it together in defence so far. India have, yet again, not shown what they are capable of so far. No pace. 6th min: India have the lead through Gurbaj Singh. Brilliant run into the D and then a shot. The goalkeeper couldn’t keep it out. India 1-0 Scotland. India versus Scotland is about to begin. India will need to turn in a much better performance than they did against Wales in the first match. Here goes…. Shooting – 10m Air Rifle final (women’s) [caption id=“attachment_1636117” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Super shooting by Chandela (left) and Paul. Img courtesy OGQ[/caption] Apurvi Chandela of India has won the GOLD medal in the event with a total of 206.7 – super shooting all the way, very consistent and hardly got a shot wrong. Ayonika Paul started off slowly but then picked up pace with some superb shooting to climb up through the ranks once the eliminations began. She claimed the silver with a total of 204.9. Shooting India’s Anisa Sayyed and Rahi Sarnobat qualify for Women’s 25m Pistol semifinals. More Judo results Parikshit Kumar of India will face Australia’s Jake Andrewartha in over 100kg judo bronze medal match. Nanjappa wins silver in 10m Air Pistol [caption id=“attachment_1636031” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![File photo of Prakash Nanjappa. Courtesy OGQ.[/caption] Solid shooting by India’s Prakash Nanjappa (198.2) but the Australian D Repacholi (199.5) was just too strong in the finals. England’s 60-year-old M Gault won the bronze. 38-year-old Nanjappa’s 12th shot was just 7.7 and that sort of ruined a superb final for him. He came into the final after finishing top in the qualifying. He had given up shooting for 5 years and is a computer engineer by profession. His father – P.N. Papanna who was himself a national-level shooter – coaxed him to take up the sport again. Prakash also had a paralytic attack last year – partial facial paralysis – and has still not recovered completely. It was later diagnosed as a rare condition called Bell’s palsy, a rare condition that affects one of the facial nerves. Though the partial paralysis doesn’t bother Prakash Nanjappa anymore, he still suffers from dry eye syndrome, requiring him to use eye drops. He was the only Indian shooter to win a medal at a World Cup in 2013. He won the bronze medal at the ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup in Changwon, Korea in the 10 m Air Pistol event. In 50 Free Pistol Prakash qualified for the final at the Korea World Cup. Judo results Men’s +100kg: Parikshit Kumar beats Malaysia’s Abdul Razak by Ippon, advances to quarters. Men’s -100kg: S Pathania beats Ghana’s R Normeshie in just 46 seconds by Ippon in round of 16. He moves into the last 8. Men’s -90kg: Avtar Singh loses to Scotland’s M Purssey by Ippon in the round of 16. Women’s +78kg Q/F: Rajwinder Kaur beaten by J Myers 0-1. Women’s -78kg quarters: JD Chongtham loses 0-1 to Canadian A Portuondo. Shooting - 10m Air Pistol Men’s Qualification Prakash Nanjappa of India has qualified for the finals, he topped the Qualification round with 580 points (97, 96, 95, 99, 97, 96). Om Prakash finished 9th with 568 points. 12.55: Day 2 review: India had mixed day in boxing as Mandeep Jangra advanced to the men’s 69 kg Round of 16 after beating Augusto Mathule of Mozambique 3-0 but Parveen Kumar was knocked out of the men’s +91 kg category in the Round of 16 by Ross Henderson.
