In a Games hampered by big-name withdrawals and weakened fields, the arrival of the powerful Grenadian was a welcome sight at a wet and windy Hampden Park. James took charge of the final from the start and looked in complete control as he finished in a Games record time of 44.24 seconds ahead of South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk and Trinidad and Tobago’s Lalonde Gordon. “I expected to have a great performance,” James told reporters. “I can’t predict the outcome of the event but all I an do is come out here and try my best. “Every championship, every accolade, is unique in its own way and these Games are no different. I think the crowd really makes it special; the stadium was full at 10am, that says something about Scotland and how much they appreciate track and field.” Reuters Bit shit or bit true? A row has broken out in Glasgow over comments a newspaper claimed were made by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt to describe the Commonwealth Games that are currently on here. The Times reporter, Katie Gibbons, claims Bolt told her that he thought “the Olympics were better”, that he was “not really” having fun in Glasgow and felt the Games were “a bit shit”, reports CMC. However the 27-year-old sprinter has dismissed reports of his comments as “nonsense”. “I’m waking up to this nonsense,” Bolt tweeted. “Journalist please don’t create lies to make headlines”. However, the Times’ Scottish editor, Angus Macleod, says he had full confidence in Gibbons. “We stand by this story 100 percent,” he said. “We have utter confidence in this story.” IANS Today’s schedule Athletics 18.00: Men’s discus throw final 19.45: Krishna Poonia and Seema Punia in women’s discus throw [caption id=“attachment_1643027” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Yogeshwar Dutt will have a good chance to get among the medals.
