Commonwealth Games 2014, Day 7 Live: India's Lalita, Bajrang, Malik, Kadian settle for silver

**Click HERE for India's Commonwealth Games 2014 schedule and results** Boxing Men’s 75kg quarterfinal: Vijender Singh was pretty dominant on his way to a win against T&T’s A Prince. The former Olympic medallist was in control throughout and is now assured of at least a bronze medal. Men’s 69kg quaterfinal: India’s M Jangra was given a walkover by Australia’s D Lewis. Men’s 49kg quarterfinal: Devendro Laishram beats Scotland’s A Ahmed to cruise into the semis – in boxing, a bronze is awarded to the semifinalists — so India can add another to their collection. If he can better it, nothing like it! Women’s 57-60kg quarterfinal: Laishram Devi beat Welsh C Jones to make the semis. The four-round bout was quite close but the Indian came on top in the end. Squash Men’s doubles pair Saurav Ghosal and Harinder Pal Sandhu won 11-7, 11-3 over Uganda’s Paul Kadoma and Michael Kawooya. They had earlier beaten Cayman Islands but lost to Wales to finish second in Pool G. Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal then followed it up with wins over Malaysians Low Wee Wern and Nicol David (11-8, 11-5) and New Zealand’s Megan Craig and Kylie Lindsay to top Pool D of the women’s doubles with three wins. In mixed doubles action, Sandhu and Joshana drubbed Paul Coll and Amanda Landers-Murphy 11-8, 11-10 to win their first Pool G match while Ghosal and Dipika beat Canada’s Shawn Delierre and Sam Cornett 11-3, 11-2 to win their second and final Pool E match to top the group. Wrestling Women’s 69 kg FS Bronze: No problems for Navjot Kaur in her bronze bout against Scotland’s Sarah Jones. She took the first period 6-0 before taking the second 7-0. It’s 13-0 and she’s comprehensively defeated Jones in her own backyard. Men’s 97 kg FS Final: India’s Satyawart Kadian came so close to winning gold. It was 4-4 against Canada’s Gill at the end of the second period. Both players got a takedown (2 points) each but since Gill got the takedown last he got the win. India lost the gold on a technicality. So four finals today – denied by Nigerians in two and Canada in two. Women’s 58 kg FS Final: Once again, Nigeria thwarts India. Malik had good technique and tried hard but the Nigerian Adeniyi was just too strong – she won 10-0 on technical superiority in just one period. The Nigerian attacked relentlessly – first one leg and then two and then the turns. That is three silvers for India from the Wrestling finals today. Men’s 61kg FS Final: Canada’s Tremblay gets 2-0; 4-0; 6-0; 8-0; 8-1; then another four and it was all over. He trapped the arms in and executed roll after roll. Tremblay won it easily. Disappointment and a silver for Bajrang. He was the favoured wrestler. Tremblay’s win is all the more impressive when you consider that he moved up a weight category after failing to make the weight. Women’s 58 kg FS Final: NGR’s Adekuoroye pins India’s Lalita in 31 seconds to win the gold. Silver for India. The Nigerian came in dancing and singing and that is how she left as well. The match was over before Lalitha could get into it. But Lalitha is just 20 and had little international exposure. She has a bright future ahead of her. Women’s hockey FT score: IND 2-3 SA. India fail to make it to the semis. 60 mins: From a PC, it’s in! Rani Rampal scores to make it IND 2-3 SA 55 mins: It’s goal number 3 for SA. At halftime, Indian eves are trailing 2-1 at the National Hockey Centre. 34th minute: And SA didn’t take long to strike back – scoring in the dying minutes of the 1st half. 32 mins: GOAL! India had a penalty stroke and Jaspreet placed it perfectly to bring India on level terms. 14th min: SA score the first goal to go ahead 1-0 vs India. Superb variation from the PC. Ind vs SA has begun. A must-win match for India. Boxing Women’s Fly QF: India’s Pinki Rani vs J Wangi of PNG. Easy win, this lady is a powerhouse! Strong punches, good combinations, quick on her feet. Into the semis. Superb stuff India’s Amritpreet Singh loses to Scotland’s S Lavelle in the Men’s 91 kg QF. The Scot was a bit of a brawler and didn’t allow Amritpreet to use his superior reach by making it an in-fight. Athletics Tintu Luka has qualified for the semis in the 800m. Her timing was 2 minutes, 2.74 seconds. She placed fourth in her heats but her time was good enough to get into the quarters. Women’s High Jump : India’s Sahana Nagaraj is through to Finals qualifying with jump 1.81m. Badminton Women’s Singles: Sindhu beats Sandra Le Grange of SA 21-4, 21-6. She joins PC Thulasi, who is also through, in the round of 16. Men’s Doubles: India’s P Chopra/A Dewalkar beat Sri Lanka’s S Dias/B Dullewa 21-10, 21-9. Wrestling Women’s FS 58 kg Quarter-final: Sakshi Malik is through to the finals – she beat Canada’s BR Stone 8-5. Women’s FS 53 kg Quarterfinal: India’s Lalita cruised into the final with victory by fall over Scotland’s S Hawke. The Indian was leading 5-0 when she pinned her opponent. Wrestling Men’s FS 61 kg: Bajrang into the final with a tough win over NGR’s Daniel 5-2. Points decision. Bajrang was down 0-2 in the early going but showed great defence to eventually come out on top. Wrestling Men’s FS 97 kg: Satywart Kadian, who was 13th in the recent World Championships, was level 4-4 with Eng’s Rattigan at the end of the first period. But then as Rattigan ran out of energy in the second period, Kadian took a four pts lead to win 8-4 and make the final. Badminton results – Men’s Singles round of 32 RV Gurusaidutt beat Uganda’s E Ekiring 21-13, 21-11. S Kidambi beat Welshman D Font 21-8, 21-13. P Kashyap beat Barbadian D Thorpe 21-9, 21-5. Wrestling Wrestling Men’s FS 97 kg: Satywart Kadian is through to the semis after beating Nigeria’s S Tamarau 6-2. Wrestling Men’s FS 61 kg: India’s Bajrang moves into the semis with a win over South Africa’s MPlaatjies 12-1. Bout was stopped due to the technical superiority rule (a lead of 10 points of more). Women’s FS 58 kg Quarter-final: Sakshi Malik beat Cameroon’s E Ngoyo Eyia 10-0 and is through to the semis. Super stuff from India’s wrestlers. Athletics Men’s Discus Qualification: Vikas Gowda has qualified for the final with with a first throw of 64.32m. Women’s Long Jump Qualification: Mayoonkha Johny is currently 8th best with a best jump of 6.11m. Wrestling Wrestling Men’s FS 61 kg: India’s Bajrang beats England’s S Madyaarchyk 12-0.
