Result: Rajasthan Royals won by 7 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)
Toss: Dravid won the toss and elected to bowl first in damp conditions. Start was delayed due to rain earlier in the day.
MI XI: RG Sharma, DR Smith, D Karthik, S Tendulkar, A Rayudu, K Pollard, M Johnson, N Coulter-Nile, H Singh, P Ojha, R Dhawan
RR XI: A Rahane, R Dravid, S Samson, S Watson, S Binny, B Hodge, A Menaria, J Faulkner, K Cooper, V Malik, R Shukla
MI Innings: Vikramjeet Malik ensured that Dravid didn't have to think too much about his decision to bowl. It was the right decision and Malik got enough movement early on to get wickets and ensure that Mumbai were on the backfoot. Tendulkar made 15 off 17 balls and looked good while he was there but he was underdone by an outswinger from Stuart Binny that tempted him into going for the show. Rhoti Sharma (44) and Kieron Pollard (42) gave Mumbai a fighting chance but in the end the total of 142-7 in 50 overs was just not enough. Malik ended up with 3-23.
RR Innings: For Mumbai to have any chance, they needed early wickets. But even though they got Dravid early, Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson ensured that RR had nothing to worry about. There was luck on their side too as plenty of edges made their way to the boundary line. But in between both batsmen played some delightful shots. Samson made his way to any 50... off 42 balls and the young batsman from Kerala is making a habit of this. When the two fell, Shane Watson (37 off 21 balls) and Stuart Binny (27 off 14 balls) unfurled the big shots to ensure an easy win.
Dravid: "A very professional performance in all departments, especially with the ball. There was a calmness to the batting as well and its really good to start off the tournament like this. We switched the bowlers around, and they did really well in the first ten. We may have given them a little too much in the last ten, but that happens when Rohit and Pollard are there in the middle."
