CLT20 as it happened: Otago ride on Doeschate innings to beat Maroons

Getty Images[/caption] Otago Volts beat Kandurata Maroons by six wickets Otago 157-4 after 18 overs - Ten Doeschate c Kulasekara b Dilhara 64 (32b, 2x4, 5x6): Ten Doeschate added another six to his brilliant innings before being dismissed. Otago had enough on the board though and Nasheem hits a four through mid-wicket to bring up Otago’s second win in as many matches. Otago 118-3 after 15 overs - Broom c Kandamby b Dilhara 25 (26b, 0x4, 2x6): Six, six, six! Ten Doeschate has started the fireworks. After finishing with figures of 2/9, he now has 44 off 23 balls, with four sixes — three of them coming in consecutive deliveries in the 11th over (bowled by Lokuarachchi). Otago are in sight of the target and something really bad has to happen to keep them from winning their second match on the trot. Otago 62-2 after 10 overs - McCullum st Sangakkara b Dilhara 8 (16b, 1x4, 0x6): Brilliant stumping from Sangakkara. You bet McCullum didn’t see that one coming but he’s just out and will have to walk back after scoring just eight runs. Broom has picked up pace though, scoring another six — this time over long-off. Otago are comfortable, but they’ll need to caution against giving away wickets. Otago 33-1 after five overs - Rutherford c Dilhara b Randiv 20 (15b, 4x4, 0x6): Rutherford digs one out and straight to the fielder. The intent was good, but maybe he didn’t expect so much elevation. McCullum is now in the middle with Broom, who has been patient, scoring nine off 13 balls. Otago need 155 runs to beat Maroons Maroons 154-9 after 20 overs Tharanga c BB McCullum b Butler 76 (56b, 6x4, 3x6) Lokuarachchi b Butler 0 (1b, 0x4, 0x6) Silva lbw b Butler 6 (6b, 1x4, 0x6) Kandamby run out 5 (3b, 1x4, 0x6) Kulasekara b Wagner 14 (8b, 1x4, 1x6) Lots of wickets in those last five overs, but Maroons also managed to add another 42 runs in them. Butler was the man who damaged their rhythm, taking three wickets in four deliveries — including dismissing Tharanga. Kulasekara smacked a six before being dismissed but all in all, the Maroons will be happy with this total. Maroons 112-4 after 15 overs Dilhara c Rutherford b ten Doeschate 15 (10b, 1x4, 1x6) Thirimanne c BB McCullum b ten Doeschate 6 (6b, 0x4, 0x6) Thirimane, who was one of Maroons’ better players yesterday, has scooped one straight to extra-cover after Dilhara lost his wicket trying to hit a six over the on-side. Tharanga is still going strong and promises to finish the innings with some big-hitting. He is on 61 from 46 balls and Otago need to scalp him if they’re to ensure chasing an easy target. Maroons 82-2 after 11 overs - Sangakkara c Doeschate b Neesham 13 (9b, 1x4, 1x6): Sangakkara tries to do what he did just two deliveries ago - clear long-on for six, but this time it’s taken by the same fielder. However, Tharanga is batting on a different plane. He has two fours and four sixes in the last three-and-a-half overs. He’s on 51 from 35. Maroons 46-1 after eight overs - Jayasuriya b McMillan 13 (19b, 0x4, 1x6): Jayasuriya plays across the line and sees his stumps take a beating. However, Tharanga has lit up the proceedings, thumping two sixes in three deliveries in the eight over off Nathan McCullum. One of them over long-off and the other straight down the ground. Good hitting, this! Maroons 17-0 after five overs: It’s a steady start for the Maroons — and they’ve held off Otago’s attack unlike what Faisalabad did in the opening game. Tharanga and Jayasuriya have not scored too many boundaries (just one four between them) but need to attack more if they’re to post a better total. Wickets wise however, they’ve been very careful. Otago Volts have won the toss and will bowl first.
