Ju Wenjun creates new record with another world title win

With her latest win, Ju Wenjun has become only the fourth woman in chess history to win the FIDE World Championship title five times.

Ju Wenjun first won the title in 2018 by defeating Tan Zhongyi, then successfully defended it in a 64-player knockout later that year, followed by match victories against GMs Aleksandra Goryachkina in 2020 and Lei Tingjie in 2023. Her reign, now in its seventh year, will continue at least until the next championship match in 2026–27.
