Norway Chess 2025 Day 2 Highlights: D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi lock horns on the second day of the 2025 Norway Chess in Stavanger, Norway while defending champion and world No 1 Magnus Carlsen squares off against Hikaru Nakamura in a battle of the world’s top-two players. The third board on Tuesday will witness world No 5 Fabiano Caruana face China’s Wei Yi, ranked eighth in the world.
Gukesh and Arjun will be arriving at the venue on the back of contrasting opening games. While Arjun will be the more upbeat of the two after defeating Wei in an Armageddon tie-breaker after the two played out a draw in the Classical game, Gukesh will be aiming to bounce back after losing to Carlsen in 55 moves while playing with black pieces.
It was the first time Gukesh faced Carlsen since being crowned the youngest world champion in chess history in December. The 18-year-old Indian GM, however, learnt a lesson that Carlsen remains the best in the world regardless of the format despite his disdain for the Classical format in recent years.
