A BBC report claims that Champions League winners Chelsea are expected to confirm the appointment of Roberto Di Matteo as manager on a permanent basis this week. In a remarkable turnaround, he led them to their first European success— beating Barcelona on the way to the final against Bayern Munich. He also helped them win the FA Cup, losing just three our of 21 matches in charge to restore confidence in the London side. Chelsea may wait till Di Matteo is back from his holidays before making an official announcement. There might be a stumbling block though, with Di Matteo wanting a long-term contract compared to a short-term one which will not allow him to make decisions keeping the club’s future in perspective.
