Chapecoense plane crash: Neymar, Messi and football fraternity in mourning after air tragedy

As the world mourned the loss the Chapecoense players who died in the plane crash in Colombia, here are some of the reactions from sports most renowned names.

Chapecoense plane crash: Neymar, Messi and football fraternity in mourning after air tragedy

A plane carrying Brazilian top-flight team Chapecoense among its passengers on board crashed in Colombia on Monday while it was on its way to Medellin. As many as 71 people are reported to have been killed in the crash, with only six people surviving. As the world mourned the loss of these talented individuals, here are some of the reactions from sports most renowned names: Brazilian legend and World Cup winner Pele expressed deep sorrow over the events:

European champion Cristiano Ronaldo also displayed his support for the club:  

Brazil captain Neymar took to Instagram to express his thoughts, saying “It is impossible to believe this tragedy, impossible to believe it happened, impossible to believe that the plane crashed, impossible to believe that athletes, humans were on that plane, impossible to believe that these people left their families.”

  Argentina captain Lionel Messi expressed his support for the families of the victims:

  Argetine legend Diego Maradona said, “unfortunately those boys took the wrong plane”.

  “Pray for my teammates please,” said Alejandro Martinuccio, a Chapecoense player who missed the trip due to injury.
