Manish Pandey made the first century by an Indian at IPL when he was 19 years old but since then hasn’t lived up to expectations.

This year he looks to make amends as a Kolkata Knight Rider in purple and has started the season on a high. He continued his good form from where he left off in the last game, leading another rebuilding inning after Jacques Kallis and Gautam Gambhir departed without troubling the scorer. The way Pandey builds his inning is pleasing to the eye - nothing extravagant about his shots but he plays his shots with elegance. His drives in particular are a treat to watch.

Pandey comes from an Army background and is thus a fighter by nature. He has been in good form off late in domestic tournaments and can compensate for out-off-form Gambhir for the time being.

He is also an excellent fielder, as we saw from the run-out of Murali Vijay, and can save a few runs for his team in the field.

He played alongside Kallis while at Royal Challengers Bangalore and has already talked about playing again with the South African allrounder has helped him find his comfort zone. Then there is his Karnataka team-mate, Robin Uthappa, with whom he also shares a good rapport, so we can expect them to put up a few more good partnerships for the Knights in matches to come.

Though KKR could not beat Delhi Daredevils on the night even after putting up good total, the team needs Pandey to continue to make similar contributions with the bat and in the field.
