Imane Khelif has been facing a barrage of criticism ever since a medical report published in France claimed the Algerian boxing star, who won gold in the women’s welterweight division in the Paris Olympics, is actually male.
Among those joining the chorus criticising Khelif is American media personality and former Olympic gold-winning decathlete Caitlyn Jenner, who took a jibe at the controversial boxer while making a reference to Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.

“I haven’t seen a man beat a woman this bad since the Olympics,” read a graphic shared by Jenner on her X account on Thursday, a day after Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States after his victory over Democratic Party nominee Kamala Harris.

Jenner herself is among the most prominent athletes to publicly come out as transgender, having done so in 2015. Born Bruce Jenner, the 75-year-old had won decathlon gold in the 1976 Montreal Olympics with a then-record score of 8,618 points.

Khelif had been allowed to compete in the Paris Olympics in July and August this year despite having been disqualified from last year’s World Championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA), which has since been suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Doubts over Khelif’s eligibility to compete in the women’s division grew after she defeated Italy’s Angela Carini in just 46 seconds during their Round of 16 bout which left the latter in tears. Khelif would go on to win gold in the 66kg category after defeating China’s Yang Liu 5-0 in the final.

However, a medical report that was prepared by endocrinologists at the Kremlin-Bicêtre Hospital in Paris and the Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital in Algiers states that Khelif suffers from 5-alpha reductase deficiency , a sexual development disorder found in genetic males.
The report added that the Algerian boxer not only lacks a uterus, she also has internal testes along with a “micropenis” that resembles an enlarged clitoris. Additionally, chromosome tests confirmed an XY karyotype while her testosterone levels were found to be in the typical range of biological males.
