Bresnan fined for snatching cap from umpire

Mohali: England fast bowler Tim Bresnan was today fined 7.5 per cent of his match fee for snatching his cap from umpire Sudhir Asnani during the third One-dayer against India here on Thursday. The incident happened at the end of the 18th over when Bresnan snatched his cap from Asnani after finishing his fifth over. The burly paceman had pleaded not guilty when on-field umpires Billy Bowden and Asnani and third umpire S Ravi laid the charge, hence a hearing took place at the end of the match which was attended by all the umpires, the player, England coach Andy Flower and England team manager Phil Neale. “Bresnan was found to have breached Article 2.1.3 of the ICC code which relates to ‘showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match, which also includes snatching the cap from the umpire,” an ICC release said. This makes all the international cricketers more responsible and accountable for their actions, particularly in their dealings with the umpires in various match situations,” Mahanama said in the release. All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and/or a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee. PTI
