He may have admitted to the Delhi Police that he did indulge in betting in IPL matches involving his team, but the bookie with whom Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra allegedly placed bets has reportedly said he was ‘habituated to it’. The Indian Express quoted unnamed police sources as saying that the bookie had claimed that Kundra’s wife, actor Shilpa Shetty, was completely aware of him indulging in regular betting. Goenka is also alleged to have said that Shetty had placed bets with him on IPL matches, a claim that has been denied by the actress . Image courtesy: BCCI[/caption] The report said that Goenka had made the admission before a magistrate and since it is now evidence that can be used in a court it could be used against the bookie and the two Rajasthan Royals owners. The Delhi police chief has already said that they presently have no evidence against Kundra and they will not be taking any action against him. The senior police official had said that they would continue the probe against the Rajasthan Royals owners, but since the money trail in Kundra’s case had not been tracedand none of the evidence they have is admissible in a court of law. The Mumbai Police which has arrested former Chennai Super Kings team principal, Gurunath Meiyappan, on charges of illegal betting has not indicated whether they would take action against Kundra. The lack of evidence could result in the Mumbai police also not taking action against the Rajasthan team owner. The Rajasthan Royals have already declared that Kundra stood to forfeit his shares in the team if found guilty of illegal betting. “As a franchise, we have always been clear that the same rules apply to players, management or owners. As such, our actions will be consistent as in the case of the spot fixing allegations with respect to our players. Mr. Raj Kundra is a minority (11.7%) shareholder, and he has no involvement in the running of the franchise,” the team said in a statement. The team said that Kundra had a low stake in the team and had little to do with its running but if found guilty, he would have to forfeit his stake in the team. “We believe that Mr. Raj Kundra is a law abiding citizen and would not act contrary to law. If however, he is proven guilty, or has breached any regulations, he will be suspended, and he will also forfeit his shares,” the team said in a statement.
The bookie has made the statement before a magistrate which could mean it can be used against him, Kundra and Shilpa Shetty, said a report.
