Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 trials to become China's lone international sporting event in 2020
Beijing 2022 organisers said there will be more than 20 trials for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics after December, but as yet there is no exact timetable.
China will not hold any international sporting events in 2020 aside from trials for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, underscoring the country’s wariness about imported COVID-19 infections amid the global pandemic.
China’s General Administration of Sport, in a policy document published on Thursday, said coaches and athletes who are still abroad “are not required to return immediately.” If they must return, the body said, they must strictly adhere to virus-prevention measures.
The administration instructed organisers and leagues not to invite referees from abroad, and ordered plans for events such as the 14th Chinese National Winter Games and the sixth Asian Beach Games to be “carefully adjusted”.
