Lakshya Sen vs Jonatan Christie semi-final preview: Lakshya Sen will be looking to keep the Indian flag flying high in Birmingham when he squares off against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles event at the All England Open Badminton Championships.
Sen is the lone Indian standing on the penultimate day of the tournament with the likes of Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy having bowed out of the men’s singles competition in the first round itself. Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu would suffer a defeat at the hands of Korea’s An Se Young in the women’s singles Round of 16.
Ace men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty too were eliminated in the Round of 16, losing against the Indonesian pair of Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana.
Sen, who had finished runner-up in the 2022 edition of the prestigious event after losing against Viktor Axelsen in the final, entered the last four after a hard-fought win against Lee Zii Jia, defeating the Malaysian 20-22, 21-16, 21-19 in a tense quarter-final clash that went down the wire.
Christie, on the other hand, had won the first game against Shi Yu Qi 21-12 when the latter decided to retire, allowing the Indonesian to enter the last four and setup a semi-final date with Sen.
